Joe Otterson TV Reporter Jeffrey Wright has joined “The Last of Us” Season 2 at HBO, Variety has learned. Wright will appear in the role of Isaac, whom he previously played in “The Last Us Part II” video game. The character is described as “the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy.” Wright will appear in the series alongside returning series leads Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, and Rutina Wesley.
New cast members this season include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Catherine O’Hara also guest stars in an undisclosed role. Wright is one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.
He recently received his first Academy Award nomination for his leading role in the film “American Fiction,” for which he also got a Golden Globe nod. He is a five-time Emmy Award nominee as well, winning the award for best supporting actor in a miniseries for HBO’s “Angels in America.” He had prevously won a Tony Award for the Broadway production of “Angels in America.” He was nominated for three Emmys for his work on HBO’s “Westworld,” and most recently for best voiceover performance for the Marvel animated series “What If…?” Wright’s other credits include “The Batman,” three of the Daniel Craig James Bond films, “Asteroid City,” and the two “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” films. He is repped by CAA, Strategic PR and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

EXCLUSIVE: It’s a case of good news-bad news for The Last of Us fans who have been patiently waiting more than a year for new episodes of HBO‘s award-winning drama adaptation based on the acclaimed video game. When Season 2 finally arrives in 2025, it will be shorter than Season 1, consisting of seven episodes. But the good news is that a potential third season will be “significantly larger” and possibly bigger in scope, and there could very well be a Season 4 coming behind it according to series co-creators, executive producers, showrunners and directors Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Plus, one of the Season 2 episodes will be “quite big” in length.
Joe Otterson TV Reporter Hamish Linklater has joined Season 2 of “Gen V” at Amazon Prime Video, Variety has learned. Linklater will play the character Cipher, described as “the charismatic and charming newly-appointed Dean of Godolkin University. Trained as a scientist, he’s politically brilliant, and has the trust and admiration of officials at the highest level.” The series, a spinoff of the popular Prime Video series “The Boys,” follows the students of Godolkin University as they train to become superheroes.
Most details about Sony’s forthcoming third, “Venom” film, titled, “Venom: The Last Dance,” have been kept under wraps, but one thing we do know, as the title suggests, this installment is the final edition. Sony’s Tom Rothman, in a recent interview, said ‘The Last Dance’ would be “The third and last Venom, is going to be huge,” he told Deadline.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Cristin Milioti is lending her voice to Season 2 of the Hulu adult animated series “Hit-Monkey,” Variety has learned exclusively. As previously reported, Season 2 will see Monkey (Fred Tatasciore) and the ghost of American assassin Bryce (Jason Sudeikis) travel from Japan to New York. It is due to premiere on Hulu in July 15.
