Kris Marshall will make a surprise visit to the fictional island of Saint Marie during the finale of his spin-off show, the BBC has announced. The actor, 49, played Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman over three series of Death In Paradise between 2014 and 2017. However, Humphrey left the Caribbean island after falling in love with tourist Martha Lloyd, whom he followed to England.
Now engaged, the couple moved to her home town of Shipton Abbott on the Devon coast, where he joins the police in solving crimes in six-part Beyond Paradise, which began airing last month. In a new teaser for the upcoming episode and series finale of Beyond Paradise, Kris can be seen returning as his character Humphrey as he returns to the paradise setting.
Wearing a loose fitting buttoned shirt, Humphrey is seen walking on a tropical beach as he nears a run-down looking house which fans of Murder in Paradise quickly will recognise from the show. Speaking about returning to the role of Humphrey, Kris said: “I was honoured and delighted to return to (filming on) Guadeloupe as part of Humphrey’s journey in Beyond Paradise, and to rekindle my deep passion for the island.” Reacting to the news that Kris is returning to the spin-off series, fans took to Twitter to react to the new teaser trailer.
One person said: "Eeek is humphry going back to Saint Marie????" A second person expressed their hopes for the show: "Hope we'll see a Neville cameo. Perhaps he encourages Humphrey to go back to Shipton Abbott and fight for Martha." A third person said: "Omg the best duo are reunited!!!!" Kris was replaced as the detective inspector in Death In Paradise by Father Ted star Ardal O’Hanlon, who then saw The Royle Family’s Ralf Little take over the role.
