Kalvin Phillips has started more games for England than he has for Manchester City this season.
Signed for £42million from his beloved Leeds United last summer, it has been a tough initiation for the deep-lying playmaker at the Etihad Stadium and beyond. Injuries and other selection concerns have not helped, but the stage is set for him to belatedly showcase his undoubted talent for the Premier League champions.
And he does not need to look too far for inspiration. England teammate Jack Grealish also struggled to make an impact during his debut campaign - albeit with more air time - but the £100million man has become a vital part of the City line-up this term with an improved effect on games.

Phillips, 27, was a surprise inclusion in the Three Lions team on Thursday night as Gareth Southgate placed his faith in the City midfielder. Although he played second fiddle in the World Cup this winter, that marked a third international start of the season - one more than he has managed during his City career to date.
But all is not lost as Guardiola knows exactly what Phillips is capable of. He reminded him against Italy.
Nurtured at Elland Road under widely revered Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa - himself idolised by Guardiola - Phillips was something of a late developer. However, after just two years in the top-flight, he was identified as a "perfect" replacement for City hero Fernandinho and Gary Neville has regularly waxed lyrical about him.
Shortly after Phillips signed, Guardiola said: "[Bielsa] spoke about him three or four years ago. He spoke about him when he was in the Championship.
