Owen Teague Went to ‘Ape School’ to Pull Off a Spectacular Transformation in ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’

Owen Teague tells me before assuming a similar pose, swinging his long arm up and brushing his palm against the bottom of his face. “There’s something very soft about the way that chimps move. Their hands are just super loose.” He’s no zoologist, but Teague, the 25-year-old star of next month’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” knows a thing or two about animal behavior.

AMC Theatres and Other Cinema Owners Weigh in on Ticket Prices, Post-Strike Box Office and the ‘Dune’ Popcorn Bucket

Rebecca Rubin Senior Film and Media Reporter Will pink and black loom large this week in Las Vegas? After all, this Monday kicks off CinemaCon, the annual exhibition industry trade show and weeklong opportunity for studios and theater operators to wax poetic about the magic of going to the movies. And in 2023, there was no greater manifestation of the claim that the movie business is back than the cultural craze of “Barbenheimer.” The inextricably linked “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” complete with double features of the cotton-candy-coated and ultra-dark blockbusters, dominated the zeitgeist for months on end. But just as the past can serve as a reminder of the collective joy of moviegoing, last year’s events may also plague the industry.

While most films release in China on a Friday, “The Boy and the Heron” was given a Wednesday outing in order to capture momentum from the Thursday-to-Saturday Qingming public holiday. Consultancy firm Artisan reports that it earned RMB248 million ($34.9 million) over the conventional Friday-to-Sunday weekend.
