King Charles' swollen "sausage fingers" have been explained by a medical professional after the monarch poked fun at his own condition in a new BBC documentary.
The King was filmed joking about his chubby hands to his son, Prince William, during rehearsals for his Coronation in May this year.
In the footage shown during the new royal documentary Charles III: The Coronation Year, which will air on Boxing Day, the Prince of Wales was seen attempting to close a small clasp on a lavish robe around his father, the Mirror reports.
William made the King laugh as he said: "On the day, that's not going to go in" with the monarch joking back: "No, you haven't got sausage fingers like mine."
Many have questioned His Majesty's swollen hands in the past but GP Chun Tang, Medical Director at Pall Mall Medical in Manchester, has now shed some light on the topic as he previously listed the many reasons why this may have happened.
Dr Tang told the Daily Mail : "Often puffy fingers are a symptom of water retention which can be caused by numerous health conditions.
"This condition arises due to inflammation and can be a result of arthritis, multiple bacterial infections or even TB. Other possibilities include high salt levels, allergic reactions, medicinal side effects, injury and autoimmune disease."
The technical term for the monarch's 'sausage fingers' is dactylitis, which is a medical term for severe swelling that affects your fingers and toes.
Despite the severity of his condition, King Charles has a seemingly light hearted approach to his ballooned hands.
