Kate Garraway has opened up about making her latest documentary about her late husband Derek Draper as she confessed it has been "pretty emotional" working on it without him.
The 56-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter discussed the upcoming special whilst co-hosting the show on Thursday with Ed Balls. Speaking to Ed, 57, she said she "can't quite believe" Derek, who passed away in January, isn't with her to "watch his story", the Mirror reports.
Discussing the work she's put into the project, she said on the ITV morning show: "It's been pretty emotional actually. Makes you want to jump in the screen and give him a hug."
She continued: "You can't quite believe that he's not with us to watch his story. But, hopefully, it will be very useful for others who are going through the same thing. That's the dream and the wish."
It's understood GMB viewers got a sneak peek of the new documentary earlier this week which featured a clip of Derek speaking. Responding to this, Ed praised Kate: "It was very moving to hear him speak in [that] clip."
He also stated how Derek still was still recognisable despite his health issues as he said: "At the same time, there's a fragility but also it is absolutely the Derek I've known for 30 years."
Kate agreed and said it was a "relief" when they heard his voice and knew he was "still there". She added: "You're right, there's fragility, vulnerability, obviously deep ill-health and damage, but yeah he was his own man until the end."
