Love Island OG Kady McDermott has revealed she was due to head back to the iconic villa last year, but she was replaced. Sitting down with Made in Chelsea alum Sam Thompson and TOWIE’s Pete Wicks on their Staying Relevant podcast - dubbed their “weekly quest for fame” - Kady offered insight into her decision making process ahead of her return to the show that first catapulted her into the limelight back in 2016.
The brunette beauty, 27, said: “I originally got asked last year to go back in, instead of Adam Collard but two days before, they called me up, they said, ‘we basically need a bombshell, with how it’s going, we need a boy one, not a girl’.” She added: “So I wasn't massively shocked when they asked me again this year.” The reality star was hesitant about taking part, even after agreeing to join this summer’s series. She continued: “A part of me was like, ‘I’m not doing it, I’m not doing it’ - I was still 50/50 from the moment I walked into the villa, I was like ‘what am I doing?’ but with me, I don’t want to be like, in 10 years’ time, ‘oh I wish I’d done that’.
I’d rather have been like, ‘oh s**t, I did that’.” Reflecting on her choice further, she said: “I’m 28 this year, I think this is kind of my last time to do it. I was quite honoured, when they called me back, the big dogs of Love Island - they were like, ‘we only want you, we don’t want anyone else, you’re the only girl we’ve asked from all the series’.
I thought, ‘that’s kind of cool, why not?’” Kady confirmed her reentry into the villa was “kind of like a whirlwind”, as she only had four days' notice but ultimately had no regrets. Podcast co-host Pete didn’t hold back when discussing the rise in people wishing to take part in shows like Love Island,
