Joe Otterson TV Reporter “Jury Duty” star Ronald Gladden has signed an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Variety has learned. Under the two-year deal, Gladden will work with the studio to produce, develop, and star in content across platforms. “Words cannot express how excited I am to officially be a part of the Amazon family,” said Gladden.
“’Jury Duty’ was a remarkable experience for me, and one that introduced me to so many creative and inspiring people. I’m now looking forward to utilizing those new relationships to develop projects for Amazon MGM Studios.” Gladden was working as a solar contractor in San Diego before he became the (unwitting) star of the Freevee comedy series “Jury Duty.” Gladden believed he was selected to serve on the jury, unaware that everyone else involved in the “trial” was an actor and that the whole thing was a hoax. “At the heart of ‘Jury Duty’ was a story about the power of human kindness, selflessness, and empathy,” said Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD, unscripted and targeted programming for Amazon MGM Studios.
“Ronald exemplified this in his ability to genuinely connect with everyone around him, no matter their background, celebrity, or idiosyncrasies. We’re excited to collaborate with Ronald and create more opportunities to bring joy, positivity, and inspiration to Amazon customers.” Gladden is repped by Artists First and Ziffren Brittenham. “Jury Duty” proved to be a hit with viewers and critics alike.

announced Monday morning by Cedric the Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama, held few surprises, with all the expected series and stars (that’s you, “Succession”) receiving nods in several different categories. Snubs, meanwhile, were kept to a minimum for an awards show that hit historic viewership lows last year — and can’t seem to find anyone willing to host this year’s telecast, produced by Dick Clark Productions, which bought the Golden Globes from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. This year’s nominees were chosen by a racially and ethnically diverse group of voters from around the world. It’s been a tough year for the TV industry with the writers’ WGA) and actors’ (SAG-AFTRA) strikes impeding most of the fall schedule from launching new shows, and with most returning favorites in reruns, but that seems to have been taken into account — or maybe boosted the profile of series like “Jury Duty,” which premiered in April just before the WGA strike.ABC is the only broadcast network to be nominated this year (for “Abbott Elementary”); you can either blame that on the dual strikes — and voters with short attention spans — but it’s more likely the reality that the Big Four networks (ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC) are on a downward spiral into near-oblivion when pertaining to viewership — which, in turn, impacts their chances come award season.
