BTS Will Have Jin as a Limited Participant in Las Vegas Shows, Due to Lingering Finger Injury

Chris Willman Music WriterFor BTS’ upcoming run of stadium shows in Las Vegas, the septet will be down to… six and a half? Or maybe the math won’t work out exactly that way, but Big Hit has announced to fans that Jin’s participation in the four Allegiant Stadium shows will be scaled back, despite his “strong wish” to “participate in the performance in full.”The limited expectations being set for his part of the proceedings are due to the same finger injury that kept Jin from being as active as the other six members in the performance by BTS at the Grammys Sunday.Said the statement from Big Hit on Friday: “As we informed you on March 19, Jin had injured his left index finger as the tendons in the finer had been partially damaged and underwent surgery to repair the extensor in the finger. It was the opinion of the medical personnel that Jin should refrain from vigorous movement as any impact on his finger due to the amount of activities increased more than necessary, while he is still recovering from the injury, may cause another surgery.” Bit Hit continued, “While the artist himself strongly wished to participate in the performance in full, our company has decided to follow physician advice and minimize Jin’s movements during the ‘BTS Permission to Dance on Stage – Las Vegas’ concerts” on April 8-9 and 15-16.

Grammys 2022 Preview: From Gaga, Olivia and Kanye (?) to the Smack Heard ‘Round the World, What Can We Expect?

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorEven in the years when the Grammys have seemed predictable, they rarely are — anyone remember Soy Bomb? And in an era when all bets already seemed to be unprecedentedly off, in the past days we’ve seen Kanye West disinvited from performing — although sources say talks are still ongoing with him, as well as Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and others — Foo Fighters cancel their scheduled performance due to drummer Taylor Hawkins’ tragic and untimely death on March 25; and of course Will Smith’s smack heard ‘round the world has changed how organizers approach major awards shows forever. Thus, we’re going into Grammy Weekend with a roll-with-it spirit that seems to extend to the organizers of the show as well. “It’s live television.

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorOn the day before Thanksgiving 2021, Variety interviewed Michelle Zauner about her close friend Sasami and her new album “Squeeze” for our “Up Next” series — and since Zauner had just received two Grammy nominations two days before, we asked her about those as well, along with the success of her moving memoir about the death of her mother, “Crying in H Mart” and its forthcoming film, her songwriting process, and what might be coming next. We’d originally thought that we’d be publishing this article just a few weeks later, in advance of the Grammys Awards that were then scheduled for January 31, but the pandemic had other plans; the awards are now taking place this Sunday, April 3, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Regardless, Zauner’s comments on all of the above are relevant and a revealing look at her creative and craft processes and inspirations — and check out our “Up Next” video on Sasami here.
