Some former A Place in the Sun stars have credited cancer-stricken Jonnie Irwin for 'changing our lives'. Jonnie, 49, who revealed his terminal cancer to the public in 2022 after being diagnosed in 2020, fronted the show for 18 years, and he has helped many people find their dream home in the sunshine.
Some of the people he have helped are Linda and Andy May, who relocated to Cyprus from Leicestershire, with Jonnie helping them to find their dream home. Linda, 57, and Andy, 69, decided to apply to be on the show after going to the A Place in the Sun exhibition in 2018, where they met Jonnie and his co-star, Jasmine Harman.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Andy explained how they signed up for a screen test for "a bit of fun" not ever thinking that they would actually get through. He went on to say that he "slammed the phone down" when he got the call from producers, but later realised it was not a hoax, and went on to do the screen test.Talking about Jonnie, Andy revealed that the presenter had made them feel "so comfortable" as he spoke about how they all "bounced off each other" during filming.
He recalled fondly a time during filming when he "walked in the wrong direction" and "messed up the shot" as Jonnie told him: "You silly t**t." Andy said that Jonnie "changed our lives for the better" as he revealed that he and his wife are still "very happy" living in Cyprus. Jonnie has described the couple as his favourite ever buyers, which Andy said he was happy with.
