Joker: Todd Phillips called out by parents of Aurora shooting victims for ignoring the violence in the film

It didn’t seem like there was a large portion of the movie-going population who felt that Todd Phillips’ “Joker” was too subtle, in either its commentary on the modern era of those who are involuntarily celibate, or its homage-like appropriation of classic Martin Scorsese movies.

While talking about the film Joker, director Todd Phillips said that the central idea of the film was to showcase the lack of empathy in the world. The director while speaking during a question and answer round that the Joaquin Phoenix starrer wasn't about the violence that the lead actor invokes in the film.
