‘Joker’ Joins ‘Black Panther’ With Historic Oscar Best Picture Nomination

The Academy Awards are right around the corner and this year, there are nine films nominated for best picture.

The Academy this year must choose among heartless hitmen and sprinting soldiers, supportive sisters and depressed divorcees, action actors and comic book killers. Which of these will win best picture?Data suggests there are many possible answers.After all, this is the first year in Oscar history with four films receiving 10 or more nominations each.

Will love and mercy prevail again this year, or will one of the season’s darker offerings take home the ultimate prize? Last year, Peter Farrelly’s “Green Book” triumphed, its period story about a friendship that blossoms between a boisterous white bigot and a black, highly educated classical musician an unlikely balm at a time of rising racism and homophobia in America.

The lack of diversity among this year's Oscar nominees was a hot topic at the African American Film Critics Associationgala on Wednesday night, with attendees weighing in on the causes and what can be done to create a more inclusive group of contenders.AAFCA founder Gil L.

When the dust settled on the morning of Oscar nominations, the biggest surprise might have been that there were no real surprises in the best picture race. All nine films were also PGA-nominated — the only one left off the Oscar list was Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out.”

Something has become pretty clear over the past week or so. Well, a number of things, in relation to the Academy Awards, but today we’re focusing on one thing in particular, which is the Best Picture race.

February is set to be a busy month for Hollywood in China. “Jojo Rabbit,” “Little Women,” “Marriage Story” and “Dolittle” will all get their crack at the world’s second largest film market next month, Chinese reports confirmed on Tuesday. The news comes just after the big reveal that three Oscar best picture contenders rank among this year’s most decorated films, boasting 18 Academy Award nominations between them.

The star-studded movie also won the filmmaker Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Brad Pitt at the Santa Monica, California ceremony, held on the eve of the Oscar nominations announcement.

Nine films are up for best picture at the 2020 Oscars, with all of this year's contenders for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' top honor receiving multiple nominations across the awards' 23 other categories.Todd Phillips' Joker scored the most nominations,with 11 nods, immediately followed by The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which each received 10 nominations.

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was the top pick at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday (January 12, 2020) when it was crowned Best Picture.

Once you're done steaming about how the Powers That Be in Hollywood seem unable to recognize women directors (as if Little Women, Booksmart, The Farewell, A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, and again Hustlers just sprung into theaters fully formed), here are the nine Best Picture Nominees and how you can watch them before the big day. They're not all bad, promise!
