Parasite made history at the 2020 Academy Awards on Sunday (09Feb20) as it became the first non-English language film to be crowned Best Picture.

Winning an Oscar is really exciting. I mean, I would not know because I do not currently have an Oscar to my name, but I imagine it's a really big deal. It's why people campaign for months and months ahead of the Academy Awards every single year without fail. Just look at how hard Leonardo DiCaprio went to secure that golden statuette!

Bong Joon Ho’s acclaimed South Korean thriller “Parasite” became the first foreign-language film to win best picture at the Oscars, and the historic win had Hollywood heavyweights like Ava DuVernay, Sandra Oh and Priyanka Chopra cheering.

Nine films have been nominated for Best Picture. This includes Parasite, 1917, Jo Jo Rabbit, Joker, Ford v Ferrari, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Marriage Story and Little Women. While several bets are placed on Parasite taking home the Academy Award for Best Picture this year, there are also predictions that 1917 and Joker stand a chance to win the Best Picture award. Jonas reached out to her fans and asked them who would win the Oscars for Best Picture this year. 

Putting all of the cynicism and bad vibes aside, it's worth noting that there are tons of really good movies that have won Best Picture! (Does that make me sound like I'm saying The Beatles surprisingly have some pretty catchy tunes, or that Shakespeare's decent at playwriting? Sorry about that.) Once upon a time in Hollywood…some 36 members of the film industry founded an organization with the goal of "advancing the arts and sciences of motion pictures." While its original focus was on resolving labor disputes, it soon created the "award of merit for distinctive achievement."
