Liam Gallagher and John Squire eye up Number One single as they share ‘Just Another Rainbow’ remix

Liam Gallagher and John Squire have shared a remix of their debut single ‘Just Another Rainbow’, which is vying for Number One this week.Officially announced last month after months of teasing – with Gallagher hailing their upcoming record as “the best record since [The Beatles’] ‘Revolver’” – the first taster of the project from the former Oasis frontman and Stone Roses guitarist arrived last week (January 5) in the form of ‘Just Another Rainbow’.With the pair set to go on tour and with a full album ready to go, they have now enlisted psych band Looking Glass Alice to give the track a woozy remix, which you can hear below.‘Just Another Rainbow’ is also on track to top the UK singles chart this week, with Official Charts revealing that it is currently on top spot in the midweek charts.Reviewing the debut single, NME said: “The tune itself is the least shocking part of the endeavour – but that doesn’t make it any less intriguing. ‘Just Another Rainbow’ isn’t quite fan-service, but the duo are certainly playing to their strengths: Liam’s vocals are full ‘Mind Games’-era Lennon, and Squire’s skills as a guitarist are given room to shine on a song that’s in a more familiar territory for the latter than the former.

Liam Gallagher and John Squire have shared their long-awaited debut collaborative single ‘Just Another Rainbow’ – check it out below.Officially announced last month after months of teasing – with Gallagher hailing their upcoming record as “the best record since [The Beatles’] ‘Revolver’” – the first taster of the project from the former Oasis frontman and Stone Roses guitarist arrives today (January 5) in the form of the psychedelic lead single ‘Just Another Rainbow’.Opening with a trademark floral but crunching Squires riff before Gallagher growls “I might have known this would be just another rainbow“, the track soon blooms into a ’60s-indebted psych track complete with a wailing and star-gazing guitar solo.NME‘s review of ‘Just Another Rainbow’ noted that the song’s “willingness to stretch out and groove is at odds with the pop-driven ‘C’Mon You Know’ [Gallagher’s 2022 solo album]” – as well as noting “hints of Cream in Squire’s performance and structures” and “even something of The Rolling Stones in the way Liam drawls: “just another rainbow, hanging over me / just another rainbow, dropping on my tree”.”‘Just Another Rainbow’ comes ahead of what the duo promise as “more new music to follow as the year unfolds”. The single is available to pre-order on 7” vinyl here.A video is on the way, but the duo have this week shared the below teaser trailer.A post shared by Liam Gallagher (@liamgallagher)“To me the most obvious take on ‘Just Another Rainbow’ is that it’s about disappointment, and the sentiment is that you never get what you really want,” said Squire in a statement.

Terri Hooley on punching John Lennon: “He was stoned so it wasn’t my proudest moment”

John Lennon – saying that he doesn’t see it as “my proudest moment”.An icon of the Belfast punk scene, Terri Hooley reminisced about some of the biggest moments of his life in a new interview with The Guardian, including his tumultuous encounter with The Beatles legend. In the discussion – done to help promote new biography Terri Hooley: Seventy-Five Revolutions by Stuart Bailie – the music industry veteran recalled how the encounter took place around 1970.Introduced to Lennon in London by friends of Oz Magazine, the musician mistook Hooley as a supporter of the IRA in his pre-pacifist days and offered to supply him with weapons. The mistake led to Hooley throwing a punch at the former Beatle – a move he now says he isn’t proud of.“He was stoned so it wasn’t my proudest moment,” he told the outlet, adding: “When I met Cynthia [Lennon’s first wife] and told her, she said, ‘You should have hit him harder!’”The response to the misunderstanding came from Hooley’s upbringing in Belfast’s troubled times and strong political outlook; which also led to him confronting Bob Dylan about his refusal to stop paying taxes to protest the Vietnam war.Hooley’s importance in the industry comes from his role in putting Belfast on the map for music – launching various counterculture magazines and pirate radio stations during times of conflict.
