While showrunner Pierre Schoeller has spent a career tracing his country’s corridors of power through films like “Versailles” and “The Minister,” he found a most opportune creative partner working with politician Edouard Philippe to adapt the latter’s 2011 novel. Perhaps the name rings a bell.

The untitled French thriller series revolves around a young mother on the run finds an unexpected opportunity to bounce back by becoming a picker in a prestigious flower farm in Provence. But the mysterious death of the family patriarch of the company casts her under the spotlight as the prime suspect.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Jamie Dornan will lead the cast of a new crime noir series that has been ordered at Netflix titled “The Undertow,” Variety has learned exclusively. “The Undertow” is based on the Nordisk Film Production AS television series “Twin” created by Kristoffer Metcalfe. Dornan will star in the series as twin brothers Adam and Lee.

Last week, the trades revealed details about “The Department,” a new espionage political thriller series based on the critically acclaimed hit French drama “Le Bureau des Legendes.” Michael Fassbender was cast in the lead role, and the series came from George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures shingle. While early reports said Clooney would direct, a new Paramount+ announcement revealed that he’s just executive producing the project and Golden Globe and multi-BAFTA winner Joe Wright (“Pride and Prejudice,” “The Darkest Hour” and “Atonement”) will direct the series instead.

The highly anticipated Netflix series The Gentlemen arrives on the streaming platform on Thursday 7 March with Theo James and Kaya Scodelario in the main roles as Eddie Halstead and Susie Glass.The series sounds familiar because Guy Ritchie, writer, executive producer and director also created the film with the same name. During the making of the series, the cast and crew filmed in various locations from Brocket Hall to Badminton House but during one take, the team made a costly error. During a Q&A at the world premiere, Guy revealed an incident on set left them in trouble.

Wright replaces Clooney, who initially was slated to direct the series.

They join previously announced cast members Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, and Chaske Spencer.

Beth Grant (“No Country For Old Men,” “Donnie Darko”), Damon Herriman (“Once Upon A Time in Hollywood”, “Justified”), Maxwell Jenkins (“Arcadian,” “Lost In Space”) and Jolene Purdy (“The White Lotus,” “Orange Is The New Black”) have all joined the show in series regular roles. Aside from Bacon, they join previously announced cast member Jennifer Nettles.

They will star alongside previously announced star Lena Headey as well as Gillian Anderson.
