Peaky Blinders from your couch (what, just me?), Jennifer Hudson was making history. On Sunday night, the actor, singer, and my favorite American Idol alum officially achieved status, adding a Tony Award to her long list of accomplishments. (In case you forgot, an EGOT has at least one of each of the most prestigious awards in show biz: an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award.)Hudson picked up the big “T” at the at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 12, when A Strange Loop, the Broadway show Hudson serves as a producer on, won the award for best musical. The actor, 40, joins a select group of performers to have achieved EGOT status, including Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, and John Legend. Hudson began collecting her trophies in 2007, when she picked up a best supporting actress Oscar for her role in Dream Girls, followed by her first Grammy in 2009 for her self-titled debut album.
The singer picked up a Daytime Emmy Award last year for her role as an executive producer on Baba Yaga, which one the award for best interactive media. She should have also received an Oscar for her role as Carrie Bradshaw's assistant in the 2008 Sex and the City movie, but, whatever.Before she achieved her milestone status, the actor joked to in 2020 that she would need to adopt two more dogs in order to become an EGOT."I got a dog and named it Oscar, and then I won my Oscar.
And then I got a dog and named it Grammy, and then I won my Grammy," she said. "So I think I should get some dogs and name them Emmy and Tony — and it'll give me good luck, and I'll win.
