There was a time when the last thing James Argent - known to all as 'Arg' - wanted to do was attempt a legendary dance routine on national television. But after losing a phenomenal 13 stone with a rigorous diet and exercise regime, the former TOWIE star was delighted to strut his stuff on The Real Dirty Dancing, which arrives on E4 later this month. And the much-loved celebrity, who has battled his demons in many forms since finding fame, admitted he even felt sexy as he took on the late Patrick Swayze’s iconic role, playing Johnny.
“I love Dirty Dancing!” the reality star told new magazine. “If I’m going to try and become Johnny, you’ve got to feel sexy and confident. So it just all came at the perfect time for me, really.
"I just felt like I was in a really good head space and happy and confident, so it was kind of the perfect show for me at the perfect time.” Arg, whose exes include his TOWIE co-stars Lydia Bright and Gemma Collins, was paired with TV presenter Anthea Turner for the show, and reveals that the celebrities were forced to show off their Dirty Dancing skills - or lack of them - within minutes of arriving on location for the programme, hosted by Keith Lemon and Ashley Roberts. He told us:“Yeah, [we] literally didn’t get time to unpack our bags! It was pretty tough, but it was fun. And everyone went for it.
"No one held back, every single person there was desperate to be Johnny. Everyone was desperate to be Baby. "Everyone wanted it, which made it even better, because we all loved each other and we all got on so well, but you did feel that it was really competitive." And Arg claims he totally embraced the challenge in a way he might not have done before his new body confidence.
