A father and son from Strathearn have raised almost £16,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK by successfully conquering the London Marathon.

Coronation Street star Chris Fountain has proudly announced he completed the 2023 London Marathon after suffering a stroke in August last year. The soap star, 35, who is best known for playing Tommy Duckworth in Coronation Street, took to Instagram on Sunday evening to share the news and emotionally told his fans how proud he is of himself for completing the race in less than four hours. Chris posted a snap of himself beaming with pride while holding up his marathon medal and wrote: "I DID IT!!!!!!! From having a stroke in August to running a sub 4 hour marathon." EastEnders star Heather Peace said the cast is “absolutely stoked” to have raised £50,000 in memory of their late co-star Dame Barbara Windsor by running the London Marathon.The star said fundraising for Alzheimer’s UK had gone “beyond our wildest expectations” and the team, known as Bab's Army, were especially grateful for people’s donations during the cost-of-living crisis. BBC Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts said “up yours cancer” after becoming the fastest woman to complete the London Marathon with a stoma bag.The 44-year-old, who began using a stoma bag in 2021 after surgery for bowel cancer, ran the race in three hours 30 minutes and 22 seconds and was awarded with a Guinness World Record at the end.The official Guinness World Record’s Twitter account shared a picture of the DJ with her certificate after the race, writing: “Adele Roberts completed the fastest marathon with an ileostomy (female) in 3:30:22. Congratulations, Adele!” Adele had a tiny replica medal made for her stoma, which she has named Audrey, which she shared in a video posted on her Instagram story.
