Good Morning Britain viewers woke up to a "ray of sunshine" this morning (September 16) when a familiar soap star stood in for the usual weather presenter, Laura Tobin. Des Coleman hosted today's weather forecast to the delight of viewers who took to Twitter to praise him as a presenter.The popular weatherman is of course familiar to viewers having had career as an actor, even landing a role in EastEnders playing Lenny Wallace from 1996 to 1999. After leaving Albert Square, Des went on to appear in Casualty, The Bill and even appeared in the West End before training with the Met Office and moving into weather presenting.

Emmerdale fans will be pleased to know that ITV will be airing three back-to-back episodes of the well-loved soap on Thursday 15 September. The decision by ITV comes after the broadcaster has shaken up its usual television schedule following the death of Her Majesty the Queen last week – something which has since dominated TV channels across the UK. Jaime Winstone has said playing a young Peggy Mitchell in a flashback episode of EastEnders will be an “amazing milestone” that “bookends” her journey with Dame Barbara Windsor. The matriarch of the Mitchell family was played by Dame Barbara for more than two decades after she joined the long-running soap in 1994 and became its biggest star, with her iconic catchphrase: "Get outta' my pub," when her character landlady of the Queen Vic.
