EastEnders star Maisie Smith has reported to having lost 'clumps' of her hair whilst filming for the Channel 4 armed forces reality series Celebrity SAS. Catching up with OK! and other press ahead of the premiere of the brand new series next week, the 21-year-old actress revealed how different the Jordanian desert was compared to her glitz and glam lifestyle in the UK.
"At the start, I was trying to look in the coffee cups just to see if I had spots – and my hair fell out! For a good few showers, clump after clump." She recalls: "I think it was just from having it in that tight bun and all the mud and sand stuck in it. But as the days went on, you just tend to stop caring at all." Maisie - who has recently struck up a romance with The Wanted frontman and her Strictly co-star Max George - also revealed that the experience has changed her perspective on appearances.
"It was the first time I've ever not cared and it was very refreshing. I found that when I came back, when I was at home, that sort of feeling stayed.
"I was like, 'You know what, I've just done something that's made me the strongest I've ever felt mentally and physically. So when I came back, I just felt incredible.
It was quite nice that we weren't allowed to see ourselves." So why - like numerous other big names - did the EastEnders star sign up to what many celebs have previously dubbed the biggest challenge of their lives? "I like pushing myself out of my comfort zone and seeing how strong I can be physically and mentally," Maisie discloses. "I think as well, being a young woman in the world, I wanted to be that empowering, strong woman who could go out there and say, “Look, I’m pushing myself to the limit, and I definitely left feeling pretty strong.'".
