Charna Flam Emmy-winning TV and film editor John Gordon Wright, who cut notable titles including “Speed,” “The Hunt for Red October,” “X-Men” and “The Passion of the Christ,” died April 20 at his home in Calabasas after a battle with cancer. He was 79. Wright, who worked frequently with directors including John McTiernan and Mel Gibson, received an Emmy award for his work on “Sarah, Plain and Tall” as well Oscar nominations for his work on “The Hunt for Red October” and “Speed.” More than 50 years ago, Wright began his prolific career as a film editor, first working at The James Company. In 1973, Wright contributed to the TV movie “Strange Creatures of the Night” and soon moved into feature editing. Soon after Wright edited for “Life Goes to War: Hollywood and the Home Front” and “Acapulco Gold.”

A new ITV drama exploring the shocking manhunt of killer Raoul Moat won't include an unusual moment featuring Paul Gascoigne.
Moat, 37, was locked in a six-hour stand-off with police in summer 2010 after going on a shooting rampage and evading authorities. Less than two days after being released from prison for assaulting a relative, the bodybuilder and club bouncer headed to a house in Birtley, Gateshead where he shot and killed Christopher Brown and injured Samantha Stobbart.
He had a vendetta against the police and believed Christopher was a police officer. He then shot and blinded PC David Rathband, who was sitting in his patrol car on the outskirts of Newcastle. David took his own life less than two years later.

Moat then headed to Northumberland and was on the run for a week before being hunted down. It became headline news across the country, with Moat making threats to the wider public after becoming incensed by some of the coverage about him.
Schools in Rothbury were protected by armed guards, with fears escalating around how dangerous Moat could be. News channels had rolling coverage of the stand-off, which then took a bizarre turn when football legend Gazza turned up armed with a fishing rod, lager and cooked chicken.
Gazza was battling addiction at the time and that a few years later, he admitted he had been drinking and taken cocaine that night, The Mirror reports.
