The families of people living at an Oldham care home - who are scrambling to find them places at other facilities ahead of its closure - have been told residents cannot return in the meantime if they're admitted to hospital from A&E.
Acorn Lodge Nursing Home in Failsworth, which is to be sold off by owners Oldham Investment Properties, will shut on July 31. The decision has left residents and their loved ones 'heartbroken'.
Following news of the proposed sale, the company agreed to stay open for six months to give people time to find new places to live. During a recent meeting with social workers, residents' families say they were told they wouldn't be allowed to return to Acorn Lodge if they were admitted to hospital having attended A&E.

Oldham Investment Properties and Acorn Lodge director Matt Hughes told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: "To be clear, this is not a unilateral decision made by Acorn Lodge Care Home. We have been directed to follow this procedure after it was considered and thought to be in the best interest of the residents due to the home closing."
"It's really scary," Julie Watson said. "Last time my mum was in hospital, it nearly finished her. She's bed-bound and deteriorates really quickly.
"How long would she have to stay [hospital] while we look for a care home when there are so few places? There's nothing worse than being stuck in a hospital, picking up infections."
Julie said her mum Kathleen, 85, is devastated about having to move. Her family took the first bed they could find at another care home, but they'll have to come up with an extra £150 a month.
