Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes the gulf between Manchester City and their rivals will shrink once Pep Guardiola leaves the club.
Guardiola, who led City to a fourth successive Premier League crown this season, is out-of-contract at the Etihad Stadium in June 2025. He has overseen a sterling job since succeeding Manuel Pellegrini in 2016, winning 17 major trophies.
For almost all of his duration at the helm, City have been the dominant force in English football, only being denied the Premier League title once since 2019. Liverpool denied them seven titles on the bounce by winning the crown in 2020.

Although Guardiola has no plans to leave the Etihad just yet, there will be a juncture in the coming years at which the Catalan decides to call it a day. Replacing him will represent one of the sternest challenges in City's history, such is the rich level of success he has enjoyed.
And for Keane, the point at which Guardiola leaves the club will create a "big problem" for City.
"We talk about the players, but the big problem for Man City in the next year or two is when Pep leaves," Keane told ITV Sport, speaking ahead of Saturday's FA Cup final at Wembley which City lost 2-1. "We have seen many brilliant Man City players come and go, it's when Pep leaves - that is when the other teams will catch up."
