Louis Saha has passionately defended Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes amid question marks over his performance levels and leadership credentials.
Fernandes was appointed club captain by Erik ten Hag this summer after the United manager opted to axe Harry Maguire from that role. It has been a tough opening to the Premier League season for the Portugal midfielder and his United teammates - with only three points taken from their first two matches.
United were under-par against Wolves albeit they still managed to start their campaign with a win, but Tottenham made them pay for a similarly abject showing on Sunday afternoon. Those games have put United and Fernandes under the microscope.
However, while the former Sporting Lisbon player has been singled out in some circles, former Red Saha reckons there should be no reason to doubt him individually and with the armband on. He wants to see Fernandes treated fairly, despite what has been an underwhelming kick-off to the season collectively.

Speaking about Fernandes and his leadership role, Saha told bookmakers Paddy Power: "It's too early to question Bruno Fernandes as Manchester United captain. I keep hearing people jump on the bandwagon and criticise them so early in the season, but everyone is allowed to have bad performances.
"Last year Manchester United didn't start very well either and questioning Bruno as captaincy material is not on at all. If he scored or assisted in the first two games, no-one would talk about it, totally unfair."
