GB News host Dan Wootton breaks silence as he's cleared by police after six-month investigation

Dan Wootoon has been cleared by both the Metropolitan and Scottish Police following an investigation into claims of alleged criminal behaviour, which he had staunchly denied. The allegations, which had been first brought to light by Byline Times, included creating bogus online identities and offering money for explicit material. In July last year, the GB News host had admitted on air that he had made "errors of judgement", but fiercely rebutted claims that he had engaged in criminal acts.

Rishi Sunak’s GB News interview under investigation for breaching impartiality rules

The People’s Forum on the channel on February 12, answering questions from a live audience, with many complaining that no alternative point of view was offered during the broadcast. In a statement, Ofcom said: “We have received around 500 complaints about the programme which aired on GB News.“We are investigating under Rules 5.11 and 5.12 of the Broadcasting Code which provide additional due impartiality requirements for programmes dealing with matters of major political controversy and major matters relating to current public policy.“Specifically, Rules 5.11 and 5.12 require that an appropriately wide range of significant views must be included and given due weight in such programmes, or in clearly linked and timely programmes.”The presenter Stephen Dixon said during the show that the questions were being posed by undecided voters, and that they had not been seen in advance, either by GB News or by Sunak. An official spokesperson for Sunak said that the prime minister has no regrets about his appearance on the show and that “this is a matter for Ofcom”.Ofcom, which sets the rules by which broadcasters must abide, does not insist that equal time is given to opposing political views, but does say that audiences must be exposed to alternative ways of thinking.GB News has been found to have fallen foul of Ofcom rules in the past, including when Chancellor Jeremy Hunt was interviewed by fellow Conservative MPs Esther McVey and Philip Davies about his Autumn Statement. The channel’s policy of allowing active political figures to host shows, including Jacob Rees-Mogg and Lee Anderson, is also contentious.

Record Store Day’s 2024 List, Genre by Genre: Vinyl Exclusives From Noah Kahan, the Weeknd, Paramore, Talking Heads, the Beatles, Bowie and More

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic If you’ve gotten a good look at the just-released list of Record Store Day 2024 exclusives due to hit indie stores on April 20, you may rightly feel overwhelmed: It includes no less than 387 titles. Seriously perusing the lineup can easily amount to a full day’s work, if you’re the kind of omnivore who’s prone to clicking on each alphabetically arranged title to look for content, vinyl colors (black being much more the exception than the rule these days) and — the most trepidatiously approached information of all — how many or how few copies were pressed.

Bono Leads U2’s Audience in Chanting Alexei Navalny’s Name During Impassioned Anti-Putin, Pro-Ukraine Speech

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic U2 has been performing Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over” in concert at the band’s Sphere residency recently, and before Saturday night’s show, the introduction to that song extended far longer than usual, as Bono paid tribute to the dream of Alexei Navalny, the Russian dissident who died in prison days earlier. The singer spoke up for the freedom of the Ukrainian people and against Russian leader Vladimir Putin — who many believe is directly responsible for the political prisoner’s still-unexplained death — before leading the crowd in a chant of Navalny’s name. “Next week it’ll be two years since Putin invaded and tried to destroy the hard-won freedoms” of the Ukrainian people, Bono said.
