London’s Metropolitan Police will take no further action against suspended GB News anchor Dan Wootton.
The police had examined allegations that Wootton used fake online identities and offered money to others for explicit material of themselves. Wootton has previously said he made “errors of judgement” but denied criminality.
A Met Police spokesman told the BBC: “In June 2023, the Metropolitan Police was contacted with regards to allegations of sexual offences committed by a man aged in his 40s. Officers assessed all information available to establish whether any criminal offence has taken place.
It added: “An investigation was commenced into these allegations. All parties involved have now been advised that no further action will be taken. There were no arrests during the investigation.”
Via his lawyer, Wootton issued a statement saying that the allegations were “completely spurious – lies designed to destroy my career where complainants were actuated by malice”.
Wootton was suspended by GB News in October following a highly misogynistic rant by guest Laurence Fox, during which Wootton could be heard laughing. He subsequently apologized on social media.
The rant saw Fox fired from the network and became the most complained about broadcast of the year to Ofcom.
Wootton was also dropped by MailOnline, for which he wrote a column.
