Inside NSYNC’s Lance Bass’ life from $20 million ticket to space to health battle

Following days of speculation, *NSYNC fans were left overjoyed when the 90s boy band reunited for the first time in 10 years at the VMAs earlier this week. Made up of Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick and Justin Timberlake, *NSYNC are known for hits including Bye, Bye, Bye and It’s Gonna Be Me. While the band didn’t perform at this year’s VMAs, they did take to the stage when they presented Taylor Swift with the award for Best Pop - much to her delight.
After being handed the award, Taylor gushed over the group’s reunion and even revealed that she’d been the proud owner of some *NSYNC dolls when she was a child. Though the group never officially announced their hiatus, in his 2007 memoir Out of Sync, Lance wrote: “We’re definitely broken up. It’s not a hiatus.” Away from his time in *NSYNC, 44 year old Lance has remained in the public eye and has appeared on shows such as Dancing With The Stars, Keeping Up With The Kardashians and was a celebrity host on Bachelor in Paradise.
But in addition to his stints on TV, Lance is also known for his interest in space and in 2002 he started cosmonaut training in Russia in the hopes of going on a planned space flight. For the trip, which would have made him the youngest person to fly to space, Lance even learned astrophysics and Russian. Sadly, there were issues surrounding funding Lance’s place on the trip, which was estimated to cost $20 million, and after months of training he was unable to go on the flight to the international space station.
