Coronation Street icon Eileen Derbyshire landed her role as Emily Bishop on the cobbles in 1961 before she left in 2016. The legendary actress, 90, who spent 55 years in Weatherfield as Emily Bishop which made her the longest-serving female cast member in a British soap, devastated fans where she departed to travel to Peru for charity work and reunite with her nephew Spider. At the time, Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor, revealed that Eileen hadn't left the show for good but had taken a sabbatical.
She wrote in her OK! Magazine column that the veteran actress was only taking a six month break. Eileen briefly reprised the role in 2019 as she appeared via video call to celebrate Ken Barlow's 80th birthday at The Rovers Return. Let's take a look at her life off-screen...

Family life Eileen, who was born in Lancashire, and married engineer Thomas Holt in 1965.The couple welcomed son Oliver, now 55, in 1966 who is an award-winning sports journalist at The Mail on Sunday. Her husband Thomas passed away in February 2021 with Oliver recalling fond memories of their shared love of Stockport County. He penned: "My dad never forgot Stockport even when he was deep into his struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
