Michael Owen believes Marcus Rashford's pace makes him a vital asset for England and should make him a guaranteed starter for the Three Lions this summer.
Owen hasn't always been convinced by Rashford and said in December 2022 that he wasn't sure he could be the main goalscorer for Manchester United, but he does think the 26-year-old has a vital role to play for his country.
Rashford made a mockery of Owen's assertion that he wouldn't be a 30-goal-a-season striker by netting exactly that tally last term. And after a difficult start to this season he is beginning to rediscover his form in front of goal, although he was only a substitute for England in their Wembley defeat to Brazil on Saturday.

But Owen believes Rashford's pace could offer another threat for England, alongside the combination play of the other forwards in the teams.
"If we don’t have someone like Rashford, then I don’t think we have masses and masses of pace to frighten the life out of anyone," Owen told Instant Casinos. "I think when you have a combination of the likes of Bellingham, Foden and Saka and then you have the raw pace of Rashford, teams won’t know whether they are coming or going.
"You won’t be able to defend for pace or against pockets. To defend against pockets you have got to play a couple of tight lines, which then gives space in behind unless you’re playing very very deep and then you’re just going to be playing into England’s hands in many ways.
