Manchester United would turn into Premier League title challengers if they signed Ivan Toney, according to the Peterborough United chairman who signed the forward six years ago.
The 28-year-old Brentford striker has scored four goals in 11 Premier League games since returning from an eight-month ban for breaching the Football Association's gambling laws. Since firing the Bees to promotion in May 2021, Toney has scored 36 goals in 77 Premier League outings.
Toney, who has less than 18 months remaining on his current deal at Brentford, has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and West Ham in recent weeks. However, Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes Toney could turn Erik ten Hag's side into title challenges should he make the move to Old Trafford and would prove value for money, even at £100m.
Speaking on Sky Sports, MacAnthony, who signed Toney for the Posh from Newcastle United in 2018, said: "Put him in an Arsenal team, put him in a Liverpool or a Man United team, he scores 30 Premier League goals in a season. I think anyone who disagrees with that hasn't been watching the last two-and-a-half years.
