"Come on, Megan, you slow coach,” Liam shouted up to me from the bottom of the hill as he powered on in front of the group. “I’m coming,” I yelled to him, panting from the top of the hill, before quickening my pace. It was a sunny day and we’d just passed the first waterfall on our family hike in the Brecon Beacons.
Liam and I loved spending our weekends walking so when my mum and sister booked a short break in Wales and asked us to come along with my brother, we couldn’t refuse the offer. Liam was still leading the group towards the second waterfall. As the sun beamed down onto my face, I watched as my boyfriend confidently strode along the grassy path in front.
We’d been dating for nearly seven years, but it felt like we were still in our honeymoon period. He was so caring and funny. “I’m so lucky,” I thought and smiled to myself.
“He’s the love of my life.” That was the moment my life changed forever. Everything happened in slow motion as I watched him suddenly disappear off the cliff face. “Liam!” I screamed as my body went into shock and I ran to the top of the waterfall.
As I looked over the sheer drop my stomach dropped as I could see Liam crumpled at the bottom of a large cluster of sharp, jagged rocks 15ft down. “Liam!” I shouted again as I ran down the path towards him. As I got closer, I could see he was covered in blood and had been knocked unconscious.
“Oh God, he’s dead,” I panicked. “Help, somebody, anybody!” Two first aiders from a nearby school trip had already rushed to Liam’s side and tried to help him. A terrible accident “Call an ambulance!” I yelled.
My brother Harry grabbed his phone and dialled 999. “Ambulance, there’s been a terrible accident,” he gasped. “Liam, it’s going to be alright,” I said
