Josie Gibson is scared of spiders, heights and things that go bump in the night – so why is she doing I’m A Celebrity? For champagne and money of course! With the same deadpan candour and relatability that have won her legions of fans on This Morning, Josie, 38, admits ITV bosses offered her too much money to turn down – not to mention return business class flights with unlimited bubbles. “I’m most excited about the flight,” says Josie. “I can’t wait to fly business class.
Apparently it’s unlimited champagne, so I’m really excited about being a Champagne Annie for 21 hours. I’ve got a business class flight there and a business class flight back.” The bit in the middle, Josie is less excited about. “I’m hoping it will be like a TV studio,” confides Josie.
“But whenever I’ve spokento people, they’re like, ‘Get that out of your head, it’s the actual jungle!’” Josie’s family were stunned when she told them she’d been booked for I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! which starts on Sunday, November 19 at 9pm, ITV1. “My family are worried,” she laughs.
“I’m crap with any creepy crawlies or spiders. Even the thought of it, urgh! It sounded like a good idea at the time, but then reality sets in and you think, ‘Wow, what have I done?’” To get through the Bushtucker Trials, Josie is relying on adrenaline and her favourite Fleetwood Mac song. “You know that song, Everywhere?” she asks as she hums the chorus.
“I’ve got to have that song in my head when I’m doing the trials – that’s like a meditation for me. Hopefully it will get me through it.” Celebrities rumoured to be in the starting line-up include Nick Pickard, Nigel Farage and Danielle Harold, while Frankie Dettori has been spotted near the studios.
