A huge dead python has been found dumped amongst some rubbish by terrified bin men in a busy street.
The street cleaners were shocked when they discovered the ten foot long snake hidden between bags of rubbish as they went about their work.
The creature, which has been described as being “very heavy”, is thought to be an albino Burmese python, one of the biggest snake species in the world.
The workers from North East Lincolnshire Council stumbled upon the python as they began their shift on Monday morning in Grimsby.
It it is unknown how long the snake had been buried amongst the rubbish and if it was dead before the it got there.
Members of the team have spoken about their surprise at discovering the huge creature.
John Munson, deputy street cleansing manager, told Grimsby Live : “Our job is full of surprises, but this was a total shock for our team.
“You don’t turn up for work on a Monday morning expecting to find a massive snake dumped behind a hedge.
“None of us have plucked up the courage to fully unravel it, but it looks huge and weighs a fair bit.”
Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said: “We’re keen to speak to the snake’s owner so we can find out more about how it came to be fly-tipped in Grimsby.
“Someone must know where it came from. We all have a legal obligation, or duty of care, to make sure our waste is disposed of correctly.
“If you have any information about this fly-tipping, please report it.”
