A partial solar eclipse is set to take place across Scottish skies on Monday evening (April 8) and people will be eagerly anticipating this fun phenomenon.
The entirety of the UK will be able to spot this occurrence happening in the sky by around 8pm just before the sun disappears below the horizon.
This natural phenomenon is something that many people will be excited to see - but the weather and where you live could play a part if you are able to see it.
So, what is a partial solar eclipse and how will you be able to see it in Scotland next week? Read on below to find out more.
A partial solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth but the planet, satellite and star are not perfectly aligned.
The Royal Museum of Greenwich reports that due to this imperfect alignment, only part of the Sun is hidden by the Moon.
This is different to a solar eclipse which is where the Moon completely covers the Sun, and observers are within the darkest part of the Moon's shadow.
Timeout has reported that Scotland will see the beginning of the partial solar eclipse at 7:52pm on Monday, April 8. Northern Ireland and England will see it by 7:54pm, and Wales will be able to spot it by 7:55pm.
The eclipse will end at different times across the UK and will only last for nine minutes in Wales (8:04pm), 12 minutes in England (8:06pm) and 27 minutes in Northern Ireland (8:21pm).
However, Scotland will be able to view this eclipse the longest with it lasting until 8:51pm in the nation - a total time of 59 minutes.
Unfortunately, the Met Office forecast has predicted that most of Scotland will be covered in cloud on Monday evening during the time of the partial solar eclipse.
However, if you get the chance of some clear skies on Monday
