ITV presenter Holly Willoughby addressed the toxic workplace claims at This Morning as she opened up on it being a "difficult year for everybody" during her red carpet appearance at the National Television Awards on Tuesday night.
It was a disappointing event at London's O2 arena compared to usual for the ITV flagship daytime programme, which lost out on a 13 year winning streak for Best Daytime Show. The BBC's The Repair Shop won instead, and it was reported there were boos from the crowds when This Morning was mentioned.
Bosses at ITV had reportedly been concerned about losing out on the prestigious award and the reception the cast would get following Phillip Schofield's sensational exit from the programme earlier this year.
Former This Morning star Phil admitted to an "unwise but not illegal" affair with a younger male show-runner, which sent shockwaves through the industry after his previous firm denials.
After the furore, various people who had worked on the series in the past claimed there is a 'toxic' working environment behind the scenes, including bullying and discrimination.
Speaking to OK! outside London's O2 arena, Holly addressed the claims as she said: "If I am really honest, it has been up and down. It has been a difficult year for everybody but what's lovely is you find that people rally around you and the goodwill is there.
"People want things to move on. It feels different."
She added: "I know there's been lots of reports about things and for me personally, you know, I don't want to speak on behalf of other people, but it's a world I honestly don't recognise.
"I think that we all look after each other is the honest truth."
