Holidaymakers across the UK may be owed a payout if their flight was either delayed or cancelled.
In some cases, they could get as much as £520 if they meet the right conditions. According to Citizens Advice, you can get compensation regardless of which airline you flew with under a few conditions.
This includes if the flight simply left the UK, the EU, Iceland, Norway, or Switzerland. It also applies for general UK or EU airlines if the flight arrived in the UK or arrived somewhere in the EU.

If your flight was delayed long enough, an airline can compensate you with food, drink, and accommodation if your delays lasts overnight - this also includes journeys between an airport and hotel.
If the flight was delayed for more than three hours and was planned for a certain amount of kilometres (km( you could get back the following:
It's important to note you'll only likely get compensation if the delay was directly the airline's fault. Therefore things such as bad weather or a security risk will most likely not result in any money being given back to you.
In the case that your flight was delayed by five hours or more, you have a bit more rights. For example, the airline is legally obliged to provide a full refund for the flight and other flights included in the same booking as well as a flight back to the airport you departed from if you're halfway through a journey.
However, to get this full refund, you must tell the airline that you are deciding to not take the flight. If you do take the flight, however, you could still get up to £520 in compensation if the flight is the airline's fault - but you will most likely not get any compensation
