Guitarist Nita Strauss Is Hard Rock’s Queen and Demi Lovato’s Secret Weapon

A.D. Amorosi When Demi Lovato debuted her fresh, hard, alt-rocking material on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” earlier this summer, the blonde guitarist headbanging alongside the vocalist tore into her six strings as if they owed her money. That was Nita Strauss, the Los Angeles-based guitarist whose crunching chords and pummeling rhythmic interplay lift the rocking arrangements and curt, hurt lyrics of Lovato’s “Holy Fvck” tracks to another level in a live setting. “Once the sonic journey that my latest album, ‘Holy Fvck,’ takes listeners on became clear,” Lovato tells Variety via email, “I knew I wanted to bring in a band for the ‘Holy Fvck Tour’ that is not just very skilled at live instruments, but also know how to have a good time on stage, and are performers in their own right.

Bob Iger: Traditional TV, Film Biz Face ‘World of Hurt’ as Streaming Transforms Entertainment

Andrew Wallenstein President and Chief Media Analyst Bob Iger shared a pessimistic outlook on the future of movies and traditional TV in an interview Wednesday at the Code Conference in Los Angeles.  The former Disney CEO was, however, particularly bullish on the growing number of streaming services embracing Madison Avenue, including Disney+, but predicted that not all of the current market entrants would survive in the long term.  “Advertising will thrive in the streaming world,” Iger told moderator Kara Swisher from the stage at the Beverly Hilton. “I think what Netflix is going to do in advertising, what Disney announced, those are smart moves because it’s going to give consumers choice.”

Laffoon, 20, filed the paperwork in Los Angeles Superior Court Wednesday, according to Page Six, and is requesting to be named the administrator of her estate, which has an "unknown" value and will need to undergo forensic accounting to establish its worth. In addition, Homer, whom Heche shared with ex-husband Coley Laffoon, requested to be appointed "guardian ad litem" over his 13-year-old brother, Atlas Tupper, from Heche's decade-long partnership with James Tupper, and "waive a bond that would be owed."  The next hearing is scheduled for Oct.

Sidney Poitier and Judy Garland Featured in New Six-Story Hollywood Mural

Lily Moayeri About six weeks ago, locals and visitors to the famed intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street saw one of the bare walls in the area begin to show some shapes and colors. Over on Instagram, posing at the same spot, Los Angeles urban pop artist Tristan Eaton wrote on July 17, “My dream wall is finally happening!” On Aug. 25, the six-story mural, which adorns the south-facing side of the Aster club and hotel, had its official reveal in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The mural was created with spray paint and executed in Eaton’s signature collage style, which mixes pop art and traditional techniques. It’s a salute to Hollywood groundbreakers such as Judy Garland and Sidney Poitier, whose likenesses are the largest figurative elements of the work. Garland’s daughter, Lorna Luft, and granddaughter, Vanessa Richards, were among the guests who attended the ribbon-cutting.
