Helen Mirren has rejected the idea that older women are not supposed to have long hair - saying she finds her new flowing locks “pretty cool”. The 77 year old acting legend has been showing off her “radical” new looks while promoting her new film Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Helen admitted she started growing her hair during the Covid lockdown and decided she “couldn't be bothered to cut it”.The star of The Queen and Prime Suspect - who has sported a signature bob most of the time since the 1990s - went on to say she was going to stick with her longer hair for the foreseeable future.

Academy Award winner Helen Mirren has gotten candid about her experience on Shazam! Fury of the Gods, discussing everything from an on-set injury to her struggle to bear the weight of her costumes and her limited understanding of what the DC superhero pic is actually about.

Much to the chagrin of fans around the world, there are plenty of actors who sign on for superhero films and aren’t massive fans of the properties. Sometimes, these actors are just professionals who get paid to show up and do their job.

Fury of the Gods.”“Don’t ask me about the plot, it’s too complicated,” the 77-year-old actress said on Friday’s episode of “The Graham Norton Show.”The Oscar winner is playing the villain, Hespera, in the “Shazam” sequel, alongside Lucy Liu, 54, as Kalypso, both daughters of Atlas and foil to the story’s hero, Shazam. “[Lucy Liu and I] are angry goddesses wearing unbelievably heavy costumes,” Mirren explained about filming.

But despite the media’s best efforts to turn the casting of British, non-Jewish actor Helen Mirren as Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir into an explosive example of cultural appropriation, both Nattiv’s direction and Mirren’s performance are low-key and careful enough to rise above the controversy. In retrospect, it does seem a little strange that no other candidate was deemed suitable, and the movie won’t do much extra business on account of Mirren’s star power, but those anticipating a tone-deaf disaster will be sorely disappointed.
