A heartbreaking Christmas advert has been released - and it will bring viewers to tears. Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity, has launched its festive campaign.
As part of this, they have released an emotional 90-second film titled 'Good As Gold'. It follows a young girl called Maddy, played by eight-year-old Tilly Walker, as she gets ready for the big day, Wales Online reports.
It starts in a similar style to a traditional warm-hearted Christmas advert, with Maddy overhearing that if children are "good as gold" they will get what they want. She then starts performing helpful tasks around the community.
Maddy opens doors for a struggling woman, carries a Christmas tree for another woman, gives up her seat on the bus, and even hands in her homework at school as her classmates run wild. She goes to bed with a huge smile on her face.
She is woken by her mum, who kisses her on the head and wishes her a "merry Christmas". But as the youngster looks around, she sees bare walls, heavily-packed storage bags, and realises she is still living in a cramped bedsit.
Maddy then delivers the heartbreaking line: "But I was so good." Words then appear on the screen, saying "No child should have to wish for a home but over 131,000 do".
Shelter's film follows the launch of last year’s ‘Brave Face’ campaign, which also featured a young child facing Christmas in temporary accommodation. Shelter estimates that this year over 131,000 children in England will wake up on Christmas day in temporary accommodation.
This is an increase of over 10,000 since 2022 and the record highest ever. The advert is set to the iconic 1986 track Higher Love by Steve Winwood.
