'Having five kids in six years ruined my sex life until I took the plunge'

A stay-at-home mum who struggled with her libido after having five children in six years said her sex life was saved after she 'took the plunge'.
Mary Lynch, 40, has five children aged six and under, including twins; Sean, six, Cara, five, Larry, two, Ronan and Rory, both one. After Mary gave birth to the twins in November 2022, she experienced no 'desire' to be intimate with her husband Patrick, 38.
Meanwhile, she suffered from weight gain, vaginal discomfort, and incontinence. She said if she "sneezed too hard" her weakened pelvic floor muscles would give in, resulting in low self-esteem for Mary.

Mary told PA Real Life: “After you’ve given birth, you feel so crap about everything; you’re so paranoid about your body. Especially five times in, your body’s battered and bruised – and I don’t even mean immediately after.
“It does take you a good while to get any confidence back at all.”
While Mary's sex life and relationship were both heavily affected by having children, she said "no one talks" about it. Now, she's hoping to reveal the realities of motherhood so other women feel less alone.
She says hers was saved after she 'took the plunge' and tried a high-street lube and moisturiser. The couple have now developed a good routine with their children, sending them off top bed at around 7pm, which allows more time for intimacy between the pair.
