‘Shōgun’ Stars on the Challenges of Acting in Seven Layers of Clothing and Adopting Sailor Accents: ‘All the Detail Is So Important’

Caroline Brew editor Amidst the chaos of a fire alarm going off and security ordering (and later calling off) evacuations on the red carpet of the “Shōgun” premiere on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, the stars of the new FX series still found the time to share their experiences working on the most recent adaptation of James Clavell’s 1,200-page novel. Acting in a show like “Shōgun” — which features numerous fight sequences and tense dramatic scenes — would not be considered a relaxing task to most.

‘Lisa Frankenstein’ Director Zelda Williams on Making Her First Feature and What Happened When a Prosthetic Penis Went Missing

Marc Malkin Senior Editor, Culture and Events SPOILER ALERT: This story contains mild spoilers for “Lisa Frankenstein,” in theaters now. Zelda Williams has no problem admitting that her feature directorial debut “Lisa Frankenstein” isn’t destined to be considered a cinematic masterpiece. “First and foremost, this movie ISN’T a groundbreaking spiritual journey that will change your worldly perceptions,” she wrote in a filmmaker’s statement, “but it IS a ride — so maybe just try to put your hands in the air and let the coaster take you!” And that it is — a rollercoaster homage to 1980s slasher films.

‘Griselda’ Co-Creator and Sofía Vergara on Why the Netflix Series Doesn’t Cover the Cocaine Godmother’s Tragic Final Years

Hunter Ingram SPOILER ALERT: This post contains spoilers for “Adios, Miami,” the series finale of “Griselda,” now streaming on Netflix. When viewers arrive at the end of Netflix’s new limited series “Griselda” — about the life and crimes of feared drug lord Griselda Blanco — they might be surprised to learn there is a lot more to the story. The series doesn’t follow Griselda into her post-prison twilight years. Instead, it ends with the so-called Cocaine Godmother of Miami on the worst day of her life –– a scene that tested Sofía Vergara, the woman playing her.

‘Krazy House’ Review: Too Many Cooks Spoil the Slop in an Unfunny Satire

Siddhant Adlakha Modeled on a late-’80s/early-’90s American family sitcom — which soon transitions to a midnight splatterfest — the tongue-in-cheek Dutch production “Krazy House” has all the transgressive stylings of a 15 year-old’s Reddit post on an atheism forum in 2010. Directors Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil offer ideas of subversion that feel both long-outdated in concept and completely dull in execution, to the point that merely describing the film feels irresponsible, lest its premise accidentally lure curious viewers to the cinema.

The Zellner Brothers Talk ‘Sasquatch Sunset’: “Growing Up, There Was A Lot Of Ape Cinema That We Were Exposed To” – Sundance Film Festival

EXCLUSIVE. When the alternative book of film trivia is written, a page will be dedicated to the influence of Leonard Nimoy’s paranormal-themed late-’70s TV show In Search of… on director siblings. It was here that Albert and Allen Hughes first heard about Britain’s most notorious serial killer, Jack the Ripper, beginning an obsession with Victorian London that resulted in their 2001 horror-drama From Hell. And for David and Nathan Zellner, the cultural impact was very similar. “We loved that show,” recalls David. “As kids, there wasn’t much out there, that we were exposed to, that covered those sorts of things. They’d cover the Loch Ness monster, everything. I remember one about plants, wondering if they were able to think and what kind of music they’d like to listen to. They got really obscure with some of the subjects, but we loved that show. We loved the vibe of it. And that’s where we first learned about Bigfoot…”

‘Stillwater’ Writer Noé Debré Talks Feature Debut ‘A Good Jewish Boy,’ Reveals New Projects With Tom McCarthy, Alexander Payne (EXCLUSIVE)

Ben Croll Noé Debré, the co-writer of “Dheepan” and “Stillwater” and creator of the European Parliament sendup series “Parlement,” marks his feature directorial debut with the bittersweet comedy “A Good Jewish Boy.” Produced by Moonshaker, sold by Charades and making its world market premiere at this year’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris, the freewheeling film follows a 27-year-old man-child Bellisha (Michael Zindel) and his ailing mother, Giselle (Agnès Jaoui), who together make up the last remaining Jews living in a working class neighborhood that all of their friends and family have long since fled. At first that’s just as well for the easy-going Bellisha, but health concerns, prejudice and most of all an acute sense of alienation soon begin to creep in.
