There’s a long history of great actors who have never won an Emmy Award. Hugh Laurie has a total of 10 Emmy nominations with zero wins for his work but the most glaring oversight is that after six nominations for his iconic role on “House” he never took home the prize. But that’s nothing compared to Angela Lansbury, who went home empty-handed a whopping 18 times. But they’re in good company – including the likes of Jackie Gleason, Desi Arnaz Jr. and Phylicia Rashad.
With Emmy voting starting, I wanted to highlight some shows and performances that have so far gone overlooked by the Emmy Awards. Most of the programs I chose have been completely shut out by the Academy. One is an actor who has been nominated for other roles and appears in a show that has been recognized for its music. And one is an actor on a show beloved by the Emmys who has yet to be singled out.
Harold Perrineau, “From” (Season 2)Harold Perrineau deserved better on “Lost” and now he’s getting his chance to shine as the leading man on a genre series — though one that the creators have assured us has a plan. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: if “From” were on a network such as HBO or a major streamer, it would be cleaning up with Emmy nominations every year. Which is not the fault of MGM+ (previously known as Epix), which has gone out of its way to promote the show — it just seems like Emmy voters are slow to warm to newer platforms. The show is set in a quaint little town that would be absolutely lovely — if only

Joe Otterson TV Reporter “From” has been renewed for Season 3 at MGM+. The news comes just four days after the Season 2 finale. The third season will consist of 10 episodes, like the previous two seasons, and is expected to premiere in 2024. Per MGM+, “From” is the second-most watched series in network history, behind only “Godfather of Harlem.” “The first two seasons of ‘From’ captivated critics and terrified and engaged fans, who have formed a thriving online community that is trying to put the pieces together week by week as the secrets of the nightmarish town—and possibly beyond—are slowly revealed,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. “We can’t wait for fans to see the surprises ahead in Season Three, which promises more scares and mysteries, but also more answers.”

In “A Soldier’s Play,” Captain Richard Davenport isn’t meant to sing. But when you cast legendary baritone Norm Lewis in the role, you take advantage of his talents. Lewis can be seen in the national touring production, currently playing at L.A.’s Ahmanson Theatre — and it’s thanks to director Kenny Leon that audiences get to hear Davenport sing at certain points it the show. Written by Charles Fuller, “A Soldier’s Play” is set on an Army base in 1944, when the military is still segregated. Captain Davenport, a rare Black officer, is sent to investigate the shooting of Sergeant Vernon Waters. Though Black himself, Waters despises and persecutes Black men who he feels perpetuate old-fashioned stereotypes.

reunion finale, particularly where Tom Sandoval is concerned.During Wednesday's episode of host Andy Cohen's SiriusXM radio show, , the Bravo EP teased an upsetting update from the Tom Tom co-owner.«There is something that Tom Sandoval says tonight on the reunion that is going to upset every woman in America,» Cohen shared. While Cohen wouldn't go into too much detail, he said the comment is going to «cut to the core» for a lot of women, and called it something «straight guys should never say about women.»He did assure, however, that Sandoval does get flack for it after saying it, adding, «People react.»Even still, it's not the «bombshell» the show has been teasing ahead of Wednesday's close to season 10's three-part reunion.Speaking to , boss Alex Baskin went into further detail about this new piece of information that is so big, that the cast is being told they should wait to see it before determining if they even want to return for the already renewed 11th season of the long-running reality series.Baskin also said the revelations even had the EPs' heads spinning.«There are revelations and developments that left even our heads spinning,» Baskin teased. «We wind down the day of [filming the reunion] and then a few days later, there's yet another development.

Note: The following contains spoilers for the “Succession” series finale.Of the many moments in the “Succession” series finale that have sparked conversation and debate ever since it aired, perhaps the most charged might be the final scene between Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) – and creator Jesse Armstrong is now offering up his interpretation of that dead-fish handhold.Tom has been named CEO of Waystar Royco, now owned by Matsson’s (Alexander Skarsgard) Gojo, thanks to Shiv’s last-minute decision to change her vote at the board meeting and deny Kendall (Jeremy Strong) the chance to be CEO. In the moments following the vote, we see Tom ask Shiv to meet him in a car waiting downstairs and she hurridly declines, yet later on we see her join him in the vehicle, the new King and Queen side by side. Tom coldly offers up his hand and Shiv puts hers on top of his, not as a show of affection but of… resignation? Acquiescence? Deference? What precisely is going on there has been a matter of debate among fans, but Armstrong told NPR’s Fresh Air that he sees it as “terrifying equality.”“Everyone has their own view, and I can tell you mine, which is that for me it was a moment of equality,” the creator and showrunner said.

When someone talks about improvisation, odds are your mind goes to what is known as short-form; theater games or quick scenes, the sort of performances popularized by “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and seen in small theaters. Most people have seen – or been in – groups like this. Long-form improv, as the name implies, offers a different challenge. Rather than taking suggestions throughout a show for different scenes, performers only take a few suggestions at the top of a show and proceed to perform the rest of the show based on those. While there may be several scenes within a show, the idea is that they are all related to those initial prompts.
