Grammys’ Prince tribute by Usher receives mixed reactions from viewers

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was the last big-ticket film of 2019 to release towards the end of December and the expectations for Episode IX ran high, given it was marketed as the end of the Skywalker saga. However, when the movie did release, it was met with mixed reactions, similar to the ones received by Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017). Many argued over the fact that the ending was hasty and the character arcs were not justified.

“We were all freaking out, because obviously, hearing the news about Kobe [Bryant] and his daughter [Gianna], was so tragic and none of us can still believe it right now to this day,” Alicia Keys, host of the 2020 Grammy Awards, said during the Jan. 29 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Nearly four years after his death, Prince was honored Sunday night with a special all-star performance at the 62nd Grammy Awards that left some viewers scratching their heads.

The duo brought the crowd inside of the Staples Center in Los Angeles to their feet with renditions of Prince's catalog of hits including, «When Doves Cry,» «Kiss» and «Little Red Corvette.»

Usher, Sheila E., and FKA twigs took to the 2020 Grammy Awards stage tonight, where they performed a tribute to the late Prince. Usher kicked off the performance in a sparkling waistcoat for a version of “Little Red Corvette.” He then went into renditions of “When Doves Cry,” and “Kiss.” Sheila E. supported on vocals and drums. FKA twigs danced but did not sing during the performance. They were joined by a slew of dancers and a backing band.

It was confirmed on Sunday that basketball legend Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna tragically died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.

FKA twigs will perform Sunday night at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, where she’ll take the stage with Sheila E. and Usher for a tribute to the late Prince. twigs said that she would join the previously-announced homage to the Purple One during an interview with Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio show.
