Jesse Collins, who just won an Emmy earlier this month as the producer behind “The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent,” has signed on to executive produce and showrun the 2023 Golden Globes as it returns to NBC in January. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, NBC and telecast producer Dick Clark Prods. announced on Tuesday that Collins would be at the helm as the Globes airs its 80th edition on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. ET. The Globes will continue to take place at its longtime home inside the Beverly Hilton ballroom.

Both sides have confirmed the evolution, but declined to comment. It’s understood that both sides have agreed to continue to work together, but on a project-by-project basis, now that their previous deal is ending. Winfrey and Apple TV+ are already currently collaborating on the documentary “Sidney,” about the life of iconic Oscar-winning actor Sidney Poitier. That project, directed by Reggie Hudlin, is through Apple Original Films and debuted this past Friday on Apple TV+. Winfrey and Apple also continue to collaborate on “Oprah’s Book Club,” which is available on both OprahDaily.com and Apple Books.

But things are getting even more crowded as a new TV awards season is already well under way. HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” and Amazon Prime Video’s epic “Lord of the Rings” precursor “The Rings of Power” have already made a splash with their premieres, and have settled in as properly fine performers. Neither are necessarily smash hits just yet, but they’re also not bombs. In this TV environment, where it’s nearly impossible to knowingly manufacture a hit, that’s probably still a win.

Can the Golden Globes return to its once lofty perch among Hollywood’s favorite awards shows? That placement on the winner’s mantlepiece was always shakey, but up until 2021 the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual shindig was, at its worst, a beloved post-New Year’s industry party. Now, after being dressed down for its business practices and a lack of specific POC inclusion in its ranks (that lead to a non-televised ceremony earlier this year), the HFPA is hoping after a membership overall that all can be forgiven.
