The narrator of Gogglebox has become a staple of Friday night TV alongside our favourite families who provide us with some of the most memorable moments and iconic one-liners. Craig Cash, 63 has been the familiar voice of the hit Channel 4 show since 2016 after he took over the role from his friend Caroline Aherne after she sadly passed away. Before Gogglebox, Craig was best known for his role in the sitcom The Royal Family.
Away from TV, Craig who hails from Mellor, Greater Manchester, is married to Stephanie Davies and together they have two sons, Harry and Billy. Professionally he is a recognised English comedian, actor, narrator and director, let's take a closer look at his life off screen... Role on Gogglebox During an interview in 2018, Craig spoke about the emotional impact of replacing his close friend, Caroline on Gogglebox, who passed away at her home from throat cancer in July 2016.
Talking to the Radio Times he said: "In November 2013, when she was gravely ill with cancer, Caroline asked if I’d narrate Gogglebox when she wasn’t up to it.
"Of course, I said yes; it was a very sad time and I wanted to do right by her and by the programme." He went on to explain that Caroline was "well and then unwell" so had filled in for her when it was needed. When Caroline passed away, Craig took over narrating duties. "She will of course forever be in my life, but it was heartbreaking going into the small studio in Manchester at 8am on a Friday morning to record the narration for the show, knowing that Caroline used to sit in the same room", Craig said.
