Good Morning Britain has been hit with a staggering 471 complaints over an interview Susanna Reid conducted with Nigel Farage that left the Reform UK leader looking unimpressed. Susanna, 53, co-hosting with Ed Balls, 57, last week was on combative form during the conversation, which was conducted over video link and focused on his party's candidates' activities on social media.
Referring to people who had found to be social media friends with far-right figure, she asked him: "How can you defend 41 candidates for your party found to be social media friends with a fascist leader?" He replied: “I'm surprised. Yeah.
Do you know what, this bloke's name... I didn't even know what the bloke's name was." Shaking his head, Farage went on: "Most of our candidates are not political sophisticates.
Having said that, like the Green Party, like other parties, we’ve had one or two slip through the net that shouldn’t have done." Susanna replied: "“I think knowing who your friends are is quite an important test of your character. I am not friends with any fascist leaders on Facebook, I can absolutely assure you of that." He answered her, saying: "No and you're a highly-paid London political sophisticate.
A lot of our people aren't.
They see a comment on Facebook, they like it." Later, Ed Balls asked him questions on the subject of tax, asking who would gain the most from raising the threshold for income tax to £20,000 and inheritance tax to £2 million, which Nigel called "playing silly games". GMB has attracted many Ofcom complaints over the years, most notably during Piers Morgan's on-air attacks on Meghan Markle on the 8 and 9 March, 2001.
The 57,793 complaints - the highest in Ofcom's 18-year history - came the mornings before and after
