Reflecting and watching the scene at the same time, Susanna began: "Obviously you can see he was furious about what was said, and I'm not defending the joke, but really? Now? We're in 2022? It's ok to get up on stage and hit somebody?" Passionate about the situation, Richard all but cut off his co-presenter as he declared: "I'm not defending it either. It's clearly not ok but it happened, and once it's happened you have to analyse the motives that lay behind it.
As Susanna turned subdued, Richard continued: "And what I'm trying to suggest is that maybe, although you can say it was wrong, and he could be charged with an offence presumably, was it something you would say was understandable under the heat of the moment?" "I understand that he did it. I just don't think it's ok that he did it, and I love Will Smith," Susanna shot back.
