GMB fans 'heartbroken' as The Bill’s Chris Ellison struggles to speak amid aphasia battle

Good Morning Britain viewers were left ‘heartbroken’ after watching The Bill actor Chris Ellison’s emotional interview about his aphasia battle. Chris, best known to TV viewers as The Bill’s DCI Frank Burnside, appeared on the ITV morning show alongside his wife Anita - days after the pair went public following Bruce Willis’ announcement that he had the same speech debilitating illness.The 75 year old star, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2020 after suffering a severe stroke, sat alongside Anita as she opened up about the impact Chris’ aphasia has had on their life together.
Anita explained that they had become “hermits” as Chris felt embarrassed to go out, knowing he couldn’t reply to anyone speaking to him. However, as Chris began to reply to Richard’s question, he struggled and trailed off, with wife Anita touchingly stepping in to complete his sentence. As the moving interview came to a close, hosts Richard and Kate Garraway told both Chris and Anita that they’d been inundated with messages from viewers watching at home.
Fans of the show were also quick to send their love to the couple, who have been married for 42 years, as they flocked to social media to praise Chris. One said: “Prime example of awareness to talk and share our illnesses to help others,I hope Bruce Willis knows he’s helped Chris and lots of others.” A second said: “Thank you & best wishes to Chris & Anita.
