It’s hard to believe that it’s been 40 years since 1984 comedy classic Ghostbusters first barrelled onto our screens and introduced the world to the exciting realm of paranormal investigation and ghost catching. Featuring a star-studded cast that consisted of Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis to name just a few, the movie spawned a successful franchise spanning games, cartoons, comics, and even four other movies, the latest of which was released just this year.
Reflecting on the film’s unprecedented successes, director Ivan Reitman, who tragically passed away in 2022, told EW for the film's 30th anniversary oral history, that "It was one of those lucky experiences where everything just turned out to be right, and the mixture of actors turned out to be really magical together.” Now, four decades on, we take a closer look at where the cast are now… Bill Murray - Dr. Peter Venckman Saturday Night Live legend Bill Murray was already a household name when he first starred in Ghostbusters, having previously appeared in Meatballs (1979, Caddyshack (1980), and Stripes (1981) before being propelled to megastardom in Ghostbusters.
Since starring in the film, Bill has appeared in a wealth of critically acclaimed movies including Little Shop of Horrors (1986) alongside his Ghostbusters co-star Rick Moranis, Groundhog Day (1993) and Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation (2003) Despite his success on screen, Bill is notoriously well known for being difficult to work with, and even once had a production halted outright in 2022 for his inappropriate conduct on set. A number of other high profile stars have also publicly called him out for his alleged behaviour including Geena Davis and Seth Green.
