The search for a missing German aircraft that lost contact over the North Sea has been stood down.
A search operation was launched on Monday October 2, after HM Coastguard was contacted by German authorities searching for a light aeroplane that went missing between Shetland and Norway.
The craft lost contact over the North Sea on September 30 after taking off from Germany with one person onboard.
It was believed to be in the UK search and rescue region and a fixed-wing aircraft was sent from Sumburgh Airport to investigate an area between Shetland and Norway.
However there was no sign of the aeroplane and HM Coastguard stood down the search around 5.40pm on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Mairtime and Coastguard Agency said: "HM Coastguard supported German authorities searching for a light aeroplane which lost contact over the North Sea on 30 September after taking off from Germany with one person onboard.
"The alarm was raised with HM Coastguard on 2 October that the aircraft was believed to be in the UK Search and Rescue region. A fixed-wing aircraft was sent at about midday to investigate an area between Shetland and Norway.
"No sign of the aeroplane was found and the search by HM Coastguard was stood down at about 5.40pm on 2 October. Norway search and rescue authorities also assisted."
